Master Bath Renovation - Mechanicsville Featured

Project Objective:

The main objective of this remodel was to improve the usage of space.  The footprint of the existing first floor master bathroom was large by most standards, but it contained a decent amount of unused and/or dysfunctional space.  The large soaking tub was very nice, but seldom used and contained a large, unused section of the tub deck in the corner where it met the vanity.  The customer indicated that the existing shower was ample, but would be nice to get something a little larger.  In general, the bath was "nice", but they sought a bit more style and features.

Scope of Work:

The existing glass block window above the current tub presented an excellent opportunity to simply switch the location of the tub and shower.  This immediately solved the problem of getting a larger shower and reducing the footprint of the tub.  What remained was then to come up with a functional solution to that "dead" corner at the end of the vanity.  A custom storage solution consisting of pull-outs, cabinets with doors, and open shelving was proposed and implemented.  Ensuring that the cabinetry remained functional with its usage being parallel to the vanity instead of the more conventional perpendicular orientation was tricky, but simply required some earlier than usual product selections by the customer and some precision handiwork by the staff.  Jetted shower valves, a separate hand-held shower, a tiled shower bench and niche, and a floor-warming system topped of the remodel with some added features.  The homeowner returns from her typical week of travel to a spa-like environment in her own home that is often found only in upscale hotels.  Mission accomplished!
