The original kitchen was incorporated into an 8' X 20' addition by blowing out the entire rear portion of the kitchen and installing a large bearing, ceiling-level beam. The new space in the addition also allowed us to push the existing laundry room into that area and create more width to the new kitchen to allow for an island. The resulting kitchen footprint became approx 14' X 20', nearly doubling the size of the existing kitchen. While not as wide as the customer had hoped for, the 30" wide island dressed with oversized, country-style legs in a contrasting black finish provided an excellent focal point for the remodeled space. A decent amount of electrical re-work, HW floor patching and re-finishing, and painting resulted in a wonderful cooking and gathering room for both friends and family.
Kitchen Addition / Remodel - West End Featured
The existing 12’ X 12’ peninsula-based kitchen presented quite a challenge for a growing amount of activity in both everyday family life and entertaining friends and colleagues. Neither the style nor the size of the current kitchen was sufficient for the homeowner’s needs. Based on family and entertaining needs, the customers wanted significantly more space, larger appliances, and an island-based layout.
