While oak cabinets are not the most popular these days, the main box construction was still in very good shape. However, the older style exposed hinges and traditional overlay doors presented a great opportunity to upgrade the doors and drawer fronts. The drawer boxes themselves were in at best average shape, and they decided to go ahead and replace them with new, dovetailed construction hardwood drawers with the soft-close slide mechanism. The cabinet face-lift was topped off with false doors on the ends of the island and terminal base/wall cabinets...and some new crown molding along the top. The kitchen transformation as a whole was of course not complete without a new granite countertop and tiled backsplash. In the end, a very nice makeover was achieved without breaking the bank!
