A typical 1980's style kitchen, the small island provided little remaining space for a table to seat a family of four. A 10X12 breafast room addition was created behind the kitchen area. A few load-bearing beams later, the overall space was united, allowing the precious space to be utilized solely for food preparation. Working with a tight budget in mind, the existing cabinets were removed and re-installed at varying elevations and depths. Interior door panels were removed and new rainwater glass installed. Ceramic tiled areas were introduced above the refrigerator and within cabinet spaces. Further adding a touch of style, rope lighting was installed below the toe tick area on the island, creating soft, elegant lighting in the evenings.
